June 27 2019 The Monterey Amberjacks held off the Wasco Reserve 9-8 after Wasco scored four runs in the ninth inning. Monterey collected 10 hits and built a 9-4 advantage through seven innings, while Wasco finished with 10 hits and two errors.
Brooks Benson led Monterey with a home run, one other hit and three RBI. Thomas Prospero and Rory Graf-Brennan each had two hits, with Graf-Brennan adding two doubles, a run and an RBI. James Prockish and Jerry Chavairra also drove in runs for the Amberjacks.
Monterey scored three times in the second, added two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the seventh. Wasco answered with two runs in the first, one in the third and one in the fourth before its late ninth-inning surge. Luke Jackson and Scott Martinez each recorded two hits and two RBI for Wasco, while Justin Crider had two hits.
Jonathan Vance earned the win after allowing four earned runs on eight hits in eight innings. He struck out 11 and walked seven. Ulysses Ramos recorded the save with two-thirds of a scoreless inning. Dmitry Shtykher took the loss for Wasco after surrendering nine runs, seven earned, on 10 hits in six innings.
