July 31 2021 The Bakersfield Train Robbers overcame an early six-run deficit to defeat Wasco Reserve 10-9. Wasco scored six times in the first inning, added two runs in the fifth and one in the eighth, but Bakersfield answered with two runs in the fourth, five in the fifth and three in the eighth to complete the comeback. Bakersfield finished with 15 hits while Wasco collected 13.
Austin Ruffner led the Train Robbers with four hits, three runs and one RBI. Ben Douglas went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Billy Damon and J. Carey each added two hits. Austin Toerner contributed a home run, one run and two RBI, and Dakota McFadden scored twice. For Wasco, Yusei Teraoka went 3-for-4 with two runs, Jesse Melendez scored twice and drove in two, and Nick Giambalvo had two hits and an RBI.
Toerner earned the win after allowing five hits and three runs over five innings, with five strikeouts and three walks. Wasco starter Ryan Schroeder worked four innings and allowed two runs on five hits, but the Train Robbers five-run fifth inning came against Wasco reliever W. Barcena, who surrendered six hits and five runs in two-thirds of an inning. Christian Thorpe was charged with the loss after allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
