July 3 2021 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated Wasco Reserve 20-15 in a high-scoring contest at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Bakersfield collected 15 hits and overcame 13 hits by Wasco while both teams committed multiple errors.
Bakersfield broke through with eight runs in the second inning after Wasco opened with four runs in the first. The Train Robbers added three runs in the third and scored twice in the fifth before a three-run eighth inning provided additional separation. Wasco answered with four runs in the third two in the fourth and five in the seventh but could not complete the comeback.
Austin Ruffner drove in five runs for Bakersfield while Austin Toerner had three hits and three RBI. Clifford Guerrero added three RBI and Cameron Stimpson had two hits and two RBI. Malcolm Smith scored four runs and Justin Carey scored three. Wasco’s Willie Barcena went 3-for-6 with a home run and five RBI while Seth Strong hit a home run and finished with three hits and three RBI. Yusei Teraoka added four hits and scored four times.
Toerner earned the win after pitching five innings with seven hits allowed 10 runs three earned runs five walks and eight strikeouts. Jarrod Rivera recorded the save with 2.2 scoreless innings two hits allowed two walks and two strikeouts. Wasco starter Ike Horn took the loss after one inning in which he allowed five runs on two hits and issued six walks.
