June 25 2021 Santa Cruz Seaweed defeated Wasco Reserve 8-6 after building an early lead and holding Wasco scoreless over the final four innings. Santa Cruz scored four runs in the first inning, added one in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. Wasco answered with two runs in the first, two in the third and two in the fifth, but could not close the gap.
Michael Green led Santa Cruz with three hits in five at-bats, including a home run, two runs and two RBI. Joe Riddle went 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Johnny Sage, Dillon Plew, Edgar Arriola, Dillon Ponce and Cody Nisbet each collected two hits. The Seaweed finished with 16 hits and eight RBI, with Green and Riddle driving in two runs apiece.
Wasco recorded six hits, with Christian Thorpe, Brian Sanchez, Jesse Melendez, Daunte Freeman, Yusei Teraoka and Nick Ray each contributing one. Teraoka produced two RBI, while Seth Strong and Ray each added one RBI. Wasco also drew 10 walks but left 13 runners on base.
Matt Peterson earned the win for Santa Cruz after allowing four hits and six runs over five innings, with four earned runs and three strikeouts. Michael Green followed with two scoreless innings, and Joe Riddle closed with two scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out three to earn the save. Nick Ray took the loss for Wasco after surrendering 14 hits and eight earned runs in seven innings.
