July 29 2019 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated Wasco Reserve 16-13 in a high-scoring game at Wasco Recreation Ballpark. Monterey collected 18 hits and built an early 13-4 advantage by scoring eight runs in the first inning and five more in the second. Wasco answered with three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth before Monterey added single runs in the fourth fifth and eighth innings. Wasco scored twice in the ninth but could not complete the comeback.
Rory Graf-Brennan powered Monterey’s attack with two home runs and three RBI. Dylan Laudano went 3-for-5 with four runs and two RBI, while Brooks Benson scored three runs and drove in two. Morgan Blatnik reached base six times with two hits and three walks, scored twice, drove in one run and stole two bases. Austin Marcellus added two hits including a triple and two RBI.
Wasco finished with 11 hits, led by Austin Hoffman’s 2-for-2 performance with an RBI. Legarry Stewart drove in two runs, and Corey Davis Jr. contributed a pinch-hit RBI single. Wasco scored four times in the first inning and twice in the ninth, but the early deficit proved decisive.
Jarett Viega earned the win for Monterey by striking out five while allowing no hits or runs in two innings. He followed Daniel Bodishbaugh, who worked two innings, and Ty Tracy, who allowed seven runs in four innings. Dmitry Shtykher took the loss after surrendering 10 hits and 11 runs in 1.1 innings. Monterey pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts in the nine-inning contest.
